Early Warning Systems: Knowing Before It's Too Late
The most valuable thing a project management system provides is early visibility into emerging delays — not after they've compounded into a schedule crisis, but while they're still addressable.
Configure your project management software to flag any task that is behind schedule, any procurement item whose order deadline has passed, and any subcontractor milestone that is overdue. Review these flags at a weekly project status meeting. Treat a one-week slip in a non-critical task as an opportunity to examine whether it will stay non-critical.
