Mid-Year Digital Strategy Check: Is Your Bahamian Business on Track for 2028?

Six Months In — Where Does Your Digital Strategy Actually Stand?

We're halfway through 2028. If you set digital goals at the beginning of the year — a new website, a CRM implementation, better social media, e-commerce, faster customer response times — now is the moment to assess honestly: what's actually happened?

This isn't a comfortable exercise. Most business owners find a gap between their January intentions and their June reality. The new website is still being "worked on." The CRM got set up but isn't being used consistently. Social media posting started strong in January and trailed off by March. That gap is normal. It's also fixable — but only if you acknowledge it.

Section 1: Your Digital Presence — How Do You Show Up Online?

Google Business Profile Check — Score yourself: Your business appears in Google results (1 point). Your Google Business Profile shows current hours (1 point). Your profile includes at least 10 photos (1 point). You have 20+ Google reviews (1 point). You've responded to your most recent review within a week (1 point).

Score 0-2: Critical gap — your Google presence is hurting you. Score 3-4: Adequate but improvable. Score 5: Strong — keep responding to reviews and refreshing photos quarterly.

Website Assessment — Score yourself: Website loads in under 3 seconds on mobile (1 point). Website is easy to navigate on a phone screen (1 point). Contact information is visible on the first screen (1 point). There's a clear call-to-action (1 point). Content has been updated in the past 3 months (1 point).

No website: If you don't have a website in 2028, you're operating at a significant competitive disadvantage. A professional website built on WordPress or Webflow is a one-time investment that pays dividends for years.

Section 2: Customer Relationship Management — Do You Know Your Customers?

Score yourself: You have a CRM or structured customer database (1 point). You can pull a list of customers who haven't purchased in 6+ months (1 point). You track what products/services each customer has purchased (1 point). You have an email list of at least 100 contacts (1 point). You've contacted your customer database at least once in the past 90 days (1 point).

Score 0-2: Your customer relationships live in people's heads and personal devices, not in a business asset. When an employee leaves, they take the customer relationship with them — a fundamental business vulnerability.

Section 3: Financial Technology — Are You Running Your Books Digitally?

Score yourself: You use accounting software (Zoho Books, QuickBooks, or equivalent) (1 point). Your books are up to date within 30 days (1 point). You accept card and digital payments (1 point). You send professional invoices digitally (1 point). You can answer "what did I earn last month?" within 5 minutes without doing calculations (1 point).

Score 0-2: Your financial management is a risk to your business. Poor financial visibility leads to cash flow surprises, tax complications, and difficulty making informed growth decisions.

Section 4: Marketing and Social Media — Are You Building Your Audience?

Score yourself: You've posted on your primary social platform at least 3 times per week (1 point). Your content includes video — Reels, TikTok, or video posts (1 point). You've sent at least one email or WhatsApp broadcast to your customer list this month (1 point). You know which content generates the most engagement — you've checked analytics (1 point). You've responded to all comments and DMs within 24 hours (1 point).

Mid-Year Marketing Reset: If social media has fallen off track, the most effective reset is a content batch day — schedule 3 hours dedicated only to content creation, create 2 weeks of posts in a single session, and schedule them using Buffer or Meta Business Suite. Batch creation solves the "I don't have time to post today" problem.

Section 5: Customer Service — How Fast and Consistently Do You Respond?

Score yourself: You respond to WhatsApp messages within 2 hours during business hours (1 point). You have an auto-reply set up for after-hours messages (1 point). Your team gives consistent answers to common questions (1 point). You proactively follow up after purchases (1 point). You've received and responded to a Google review in the past 30 days (1 point).

Your Mid-Year Digital Score

22-25: Advanced — focus on optimization, analytics, and competitive differentiation. 16-21: Solid foundation — identify your two lowest-scoring sections and focus Q3 on closing those gaps. 10-15: Functional but incomplete — prioritize based on business impact. Below 10: Significant gaps — start with Google Business Profile, WhatsApp Business, and basic accounting software.

The Second Half Plan: 90-Day Focus

Identify your one most impactful improvement for Q3. If you scored lowest on Digital Presence: rebuild your website and optimize your Google Business Profile before September. If lowest on CRM: implement a basic customer database system before August. If lowest on Financial Technology: get accounting software set up before end of July. If lowest on Marketing: build a content batch schedule and commit to three posts per week for 90 days. If lowest on Customer Service: implement WhatsApp Business fully, set response time standards, and set up after-hours automation before end of July.

Ninety days of focused effort on one area will create more meaningful improvement than scattered effort across all five.

The Long View

The businesses that will be strongest in the Bahamas by 2030 are the ones that consistently build digital infrastructure, grow customer databases, and use technology to do more with what they have. Every 90-day improvement cycle — done consistently, compounded over two years — creates a business that is meaningfully harder to compete with.
